Old newspaper clipping are a nearly endless fount of amusing and intriguing information. The Historical Society is lucky to have a set of clipping from a variety of sources during the 1970’s.
So what was of interest, newsworthy, some forty years ago?
Baking competitions for several high-school girls
A Christmas Fair by the Eastern Star Organization, along with a Garden Club scholarship
The idea of an Inland Wetlands Commission, a new judicial town board, not yet approved
The Energy Crisis: and ways of minimizing fuel use for schools, home-owners, and a plea to send Christmas Cards early because of the fuel crisis.
New license plates for town vehicles: they would now be NHD-XX rather than random
And so forth!
